Talatat Discovered by the Italian Mission at Sheikh 'Ibada

The style of the relief dates this piece to the Amarna Period. Talatat blocks are small stone blocks used in the construction of temples during the reign of Akhenaten (ca. 1353-1336 BC). Talatat is a term coined by Egyptian workmen who assisted in early excavations of such blocks. (Photo courtesy of the G. Vitelli Papyrological Institute, University of Florence)
