On an incredible night at the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Cairo, Dr. Hawass was invited by HE Ambassador Ahmed Kattan, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Egypt, to give a lecture titled, “The Archaeological Heritage of Saudi Arabia and Egypt: Recent Discoveries.” This is the first public lecture of its kind to be presented by a renowned Egyptologist about the history and archaeology of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Hawass presented the recent discoveries at major archaeological sites, both pre-Islamic and Islamic, in Saudi Arabia. He also presented the new vision of Prince Sultan Bin Salman, in site management, museum management, and presenting the heritage of Saudi Arabia to the whole world through multiple traveling exhibitions in Europe and Asia. International ambassadors as well as scholars in Egyptology applauded the lecture before Ambassador Kattan presented Dr. Hawass with the “Nile Reyad Shield” award.The lecture was followed by a book signing of Dr. Hawass’ book “Secrets from the sand.”
