Painting from the Tomb of Nefertari, New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty – Queen’s Valley 66, Western Thebes, Valley of the Queens – Otherwordly deities are shown here on a wall from the tomb of Queen Nefertari. Taken from Spell 144 of the Book of the Dead, they were the keepers of the gates of the Netherworld, menacing the enemies of order with their sharpened knives. In this photo we see the three guardians of the first gate.
