Broad collar from the coffin of Queen Ahhotep – gold, semiprecious stones – Reign of Ahmose, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty – From Western Thebes, Tomb of Ahhotep, Dra Abu el-Naga – Cairo, Egyptian Museum – The discovery of this beautiful collar of Queen Ahhotep, mother of King Ahmose, was the catalyst for building the Egyptian Museum. When her coffin and jewels were found in Luxor, Khedive Said Pasha agreed, after seeing the discovery, to build an appropriate place in Bulaq for its display. The collar is called a wesekh in Ancient Egyptian.
