From A Secret Voyage by Zahi Hawass and Sandro Vannini
Scene painted on the Hunting Box, from the Funerary Equipment of Tutankhamun – New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty – From Western Thebes, Valley of the Kings, Tomb 62 – (Carter 21), Cairo, Egyptian Museum – It is called hunting box because of its decoration. Painted on the two long sides and the vaulted top of this chest are scenes of Tutankhamun slaughtering foreign enemies or hunting dangerous wild animals. On one side the king and his soldiers trample a horde of Nubian soldiers; on the other, the enemies have semitic features. In the hunting scenes the animals are lions, gazelles and wild asses, denizens of the desert savannah that bordered the Nile Valley. Inscriptions on the chest reinforce the image of the king as the brave and strong slayer of all enemies.
