Detail of the coronation pectoral, from the Funerary Equipment of Tutankhamun – New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty – From Western Thebes, Valley of the Kings, Tomb 62 – (Carter 267q), Cairo, Egyptian Museum – Front – Many of the boxes found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun were full of magnificent golden pieces. This golden pectoral of the King was found inside one of the boxes in the treasury room. The pectoral shows the King wearing the blue war crown on his head seated in front of the goddess Maat with two wings, who gives him the Ankh sign of life. When Carter found this pectoral he wrote in his notes that ‘the finish of the workmanship is not very good’. The pectoral was inlaid with quartz, red and green glass, and lapis lazuli.
