Statue of Ramses III – New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty – From the Temple of Mut, Eastern Thebes – Luxor Museum – This statue of King Ramses III shows him wearing the wig and the ureus, with a broad collar on his neck and a false beard which is now broken. Also, the king’s nose is damaged. This often happened to statues in the course of the millennia, however, in some instances breaking off the nose could be used as a serious punishment, which prevented the person from breathing and eating and his life stopped even in the other world.
