Detail of the ceremonial dagger, from the Funerary Equipment of Tutankhamun – New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty – From Western Thebes, Valley of the Kings, Tomb 62 – (Carter 256dd), Cairo, Egyptian Museum – The mummy of King Tutankhamun is a unique discovery and no other ancient Egyptian burial discovered can compare to it. It was found inside three coffins made of gold, where it rested together with 106 artefacts, including a ceremonial dagger. The haft of this dagger is adorned with the King’s name inside a golden cartouche, surrounded by lotus flowers symbolizing rebirth.
