Detail from the funerary sarcophagus of the lady Aset– New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty – From Theban Tomb TT 1, Western Thebes, Deir el-Medina – Cairo, Egyptian Museum – Aset was the wife of the craftsman Khabakhent who was the son of Sennedjem. She was buried in two wooden coffins which were found in Sennedjem’s tomb TT 1. The inner anthropoid coffin was painted in vivid colours and shows the features of the deceased lady. The detail of the decoration shows Aset’s hand with a beautiful ring on her finger. Lotus flowers, symbolising rebirth, are depicted around the figure.
