Necklace of the birth of the sun (pectoral reverse), from the Funerary Equipment of Tutankhamun – New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty – From Western Thebes, Valley of the Kings, Tomb 62 – (Carter267I), Cairo, Egyptian Museum – The sun was one of the most important acts of worship in Ancient Egypt. Kings built temples and obelisks to show their care. Here in this necklace and between the two baboons there is the sun god Khepri, the sacred scarab, who was associated with the sunrise. Khepri is pushing the sundisc across the sky.
