Painting from the Tomb of Khaemwaset, New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty – Queen’s Valley 44, Western Thebes, Valley of the Queens – Selket was the Egyptian goddess of scorpions and magic. She was also the ‘Lady of the Tent’, referring to the embalming tent, in which the body of the deceased was prepared for the Afterlife. She is seen here raising her left hand, wearing a symbol of a scorpion on her head.
